BROOKSVILLE — An employee at the Cemex Brooksville Aggregates Quarry died Friday morning after becoming entangled with heavy machinery, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The employee was working in the pit of the quarry around 9 a.m. when the incident occurred. Deputies said it is unknown what caused the worker to become entangled.
Deputies said the employee killed was a man but did not name him.
Other workers at the quarry, located at 11430 Camp Mine Road, “worked diligently” to free their colleague from the machinery and called 911, deputies said. They then performed first aid after he was freed but were unable to save him.
The worker was pronounced dead at the scene when first responders arrived.
The Medical Examiner and the Mine Safety Health Administration will be conducting an investigation into the death, the Sheriff’s Office said.
