BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - After a quiet, sunny start to our Sunday, showers and thunderstorms are set to move in Sunday night. Some of the storms could be on the strong side!

Our weather turns more active as the weekend comes to close! A frontal boundary will trigger showers and thunderstorms as we head into Sunday night and into early Monday morning. Two rounds of showers and thunderstorms appear likely. A first round of scattered showers and storms is possible Sunday evening (best chance after 6pm), while a more organized line of showers and embedded thunderstorms is due to arrive after midnight with a cold front.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of South-Central Kentucky under a Slight Risk (level 2/5) for severe weather. Heavy rainfall and locally damaging winds will be the main concerns. While the threat for tornadoes is very low, a quick, isolated spin-up cannot be ruled out. Anywhere between 1 - 2″ of rainfall is likely across South Central Kentucky Sunday night through Monday morning. Outside of storms, we could see winds gusting up to 30mph, so make sure outdoor Christmas decorations are secure! Before the front arrives, highs Sunday afternoon will be unseasonably warm, soaring into the upper 60s!
Beyond Sunday night, we’ll see daily chances for rain though none pose a severe weather threat or a complete washout. It will be a roller-coaster ride with our temperatures! Expect MUCH colder readings to settle into the region late Monday into Tuesday. Highs as cold as the low 40s are forecast Tuesday afternoon before a late-week warming trend takes readings back into the low 60s through the end of the work week.
