Here's our latest weather outlook for India
5-Day Nationwide Forecast
Southwest monsoon further advanced into remaining parts of north Arabian Sea, Saurashtra, Gujarat region, Madhya Pradesh, entire Kutch, some more parts of Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, June 19. Further advance of the monsoon is likely to be slow as large scale meteorological features are not favourable, says India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The long-persisting cyclonic circulation over Bihar will stall for the next few days. This system brings moderate to heavy, locally very heavy, rain with thunderstorms across central and eastern India on Sunday. The heaviest rain is expected across Bihar and adjoining areas with 30-50 mm rainfall in 24 hours, with isolated areas registering up to 100 mm on Sunday. While rainfall intensity will decrease next week, scattered showers with thunderstorms will continue across the eastern Gangetic Plains for several days.
The IMD has also forecast isolated very heavy rainfalls over east Uttar Pradesh, North Bengal, and Sikkim, and heavy rains over Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh on Sunday. Under the influence of an incoming Western Disturbance and the monsoon easterlies, Uttarakhand West Uttar Pradesh will also witness widespread rains for the next two days. Severe thunderstorms with frequent lightning are forecast across these states and an 'orange alert' is issued for Sunday urging residents to 'be prepared'.
Southwesterly winds continue to bring moisture from the Bay of Bengal to northeast India through next week. Moderate to locally heavy rain, with 50 mm of daily rainfall, will continue across the region for several days.
A cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and a trough expanding southward along and off Konkan Coast bring light to moderate, locally heavy, showers with thunderstorms across Konkan and Malabar coast for the next few days. On Sunday, 80-100mm of rainfall is forecast across Coastal Karnataka and adjoining areas. Southern Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat may witness isolated heavy rains over the next two days. Rainfall intensity will taper off from Monday onward.
Maximum temperatures will be well below normal across central highlands and adjoining areas, and well above normal across Western Himalayan Region and southern India. Minimum Temperatures will be slightly below normal across much of the country during this projection period, except for the Western Himalayan Region.
