ATLANTA — Heavy rain moved into Atlanta Saturday morning with the possibility of some severe storms developing later this afternoon.
Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Glenn Burns said metro Atlanta is under a level 1 risk for damaging winds and possible isolated tornadoes. Parts of the southwest metro area are under a level 2 risk.
The risk for severe weather in metro Atlanta diminished Saturday morning, but areas of south Georgia could still see intense storms.
Heavy rain caused brought some trees and wires down in metro Atlanta Saturday morning. Numerous crashes were reported on Atlanta highways.
Rain is expected to taper off in the early afternoon and storms will return later into the afternoon and evening, Burns said.
