He performed this weekend at The Current's 'Sounds Like Home' event. For him, he says events like these help local musicians, now more than ever.
"It's really cool when an opportunity like that is opened up to say an artist that might be in a place that's not like a huge popping metropolitan area but it's still kind of like budding. Rochester's going to be huge in the future but it's going through some growing pains right now so it's kind of cool to see all of the scenes start to bubble up," McShan said.
Joe has been music-driven since he was in high school, but even though times are tough, he remains grateful.
"We shot it right inside of Rochester, which was pretty cool, and then we just sent everything into them and they just hooked everything up as part of the whole festival," McShan said.
The Current has been hosting events like this for the past year. So far, 57 bands have participated and they plan to keep this going every month.
"You write a record, the pandemic comes, and then you just have to sit on it because you cant tour the record. For some people who didn't want to sit on their stuff and they were just like I want to put music out, we wanted to give them a platform to be able to showcase that new music and help their fans find it," Jesse Wiza, digital producer for The Current said.
Michael Terrill is also from Rochester. He's been making his own music for the past 18 years and has a group called 'Fires of Denmark.' He's also grateful to have performed at 'Sounds Like Home' and is optimistic about the future for musicians.
"Getting our sound out there and getting it amplified like that has just been wonderful. When you put a bunch of artists and creatives alone and by themselves for a year, stuff is going to get creative and unique," Terrill said.
And for Jesse, seeing local bands having a platform to make a difference for their careers is something she loves to see.
"We're allowed to take the risk on brand new bands. I love being able to take a chance on little bands and show our audience, check out this new act," Wiza said.
