A cyclonic circulation off the west of Karnataka moves northeastward to bring heavy to very heavy rain across the coast of Gujarat and Maharashtra from Wednesday to Thursday, with a peak period on Wednesday. A total rainfall accumulation of 100-120 mm is expected.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert over Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa to warn people to "be prepared" for the heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong surface winds.
The Andaman & Nicobar islands are on orange alert too. This is because a low-pressure area over central parts of the Andaman Sea will bring very heavy to extremely heavy rains with total rainfall of 100-150 mm across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from Wednesday to Thursday. This low-pressure area is likely to develop into depression by Thursday. It will further intensify into a cyclonic storm by Friday while moving west-northwestward over the Bay of Bengal and reach near north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts around Saturday morning.
The expected cyclonic storm is likely to produce heavy to very heavy rain. Total rainfall of 150-200 mm is likely across the coast stretching from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha to Gangetic West Bengal over the weekend. Wind gusts travelling at 60-70 km/h will be observed along the coasts of Andhra Pradesh Odisha this weekend.
Meanwhile, a western disturbance will produce heavy rains or snow across parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Thursday. Another western disturbance will impact these regions over the weekend.
As for the mercury levels, the maximum temperatures will be significantly below normal across Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas on Wednesday and Thursday. On the other hand, readings will rise significantly above normal across Western Himalayan Region and Northeast India during this week. The minimum temperatures will be above to much above normal across the subcontinent through this week, with significantly warmer than average nights for Western Himalayan Region and Northeast India.

- Heavy rainfall/snowfall are forecast over parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
- Heavy rain is expected over parts of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region and Madhya Maharashtra.
- Widespread rainfall with thunderstorms is predicted over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- Fairly widespread rain/snow with thunderstorms are likely over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
- Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are forecast over East Rajasthan, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Kerala & Mahe.
- Scattered showers with thunderstorms are possible over West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Marathawada, Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
- Isolated rains with thunderstorms are likely over Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Punjab, West Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidharbha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.
