Eagles’ Miles Sanders activated off IR | What it means for the current roster - nj.com

Eagles running back Miles Sanders was on a cart headed into the Allegiant Stadium tunnel four weeks ago when his team took on the Las Vegas Raiders.

As Sanders rode in on the vehicle, a white towel was draped on his head while his leg was outstretched on the back of the cart. It did not look good, seemingly being a season-ending injury.

However, after being examined and receiving treatment on his injured ankle, Sanders finds himself ready to take the field a day before the Eagles face the New Orleans Saints at Lincoln Financial Field.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Eagles have activated Sanders off of injured reserve. In a corresponding move, the Eagles announced they have placed offensive lineman Jack Anderson on injured reserve. Anderson was already ruled out for Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury.

Sanders return suddenly gives the Eagles four viable options at running back that can help with their offensive attack. Sanders, who has run for 300 yards in seven games this season, is still the team’s most complete running back, with his elusive running and speed being a problem for defenses when he gets in the open field.

However, Jordan Howard, Boston Scott, and Kenny Gainwell have had success in their newfound run-by-committee roles. Since the Eagles have focused on the run, they have opened up their offense, making their play-action passes more effective.

The amount of carries Sanders will receive is unknown. For head coach and play-caller Nick Sirianni, he will have a tough decision on who to use in certain situations. Sirianni could choose to go with the “hot hand,” playing all four running backs and then deciding to use the back who had been the most effective late in the game.

Anderson, who was signed off of the Buffalo Bills practice squad earlier in the season, has not played in a game this season and has been a depth piece for the team. Anderson, who can play both center and guard, had the type of versatility. The Eagles have built depth on the offensive line and can still call up Brett Toth or Kayode Awosika if they suffer any injuries to their interior offensive linemen.
