Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It was a wet and stormy Friday across southeast Minnesota and parts of Iowa.

Periods of rain fell into the evening with totals of 2 - 3 inches in most areas.

Rochester smashed its rainfall record for Aug. 27. The city’s official total at the airport was 3.51 inches. The previous record was 1.43 inches, set in 1946.

Reports from sites in Rochester were in the 2 - 3 inch range. Austin reported 5 ½ inches, Plainview received 4.3 inches and Byron reported 4.15 inches.

The National Weather Service says there is a chance for more rain across the region late Saturday but totals are expected to be half an inch or less.

It was a different story in Iowa where heavy rain combined with tornadoes late Friday afternoon and early evening.

Numerous tornadoes and funnel clouds were reported in the Mason City/Clear Lake area. Another touched down near the town of Marble Rock in Floyd County. Early damage reports included downed trees and power lines. Heavy rain also flooded numerous roads. The town of Elma, Iowa reported nearly 8 ½ inches of rain.
