Here's our latest weather outlook for India

5-Day Nationwide Forecast

A low-pressure area is located over the southwest Bay of Bengal will produce widespread rain with localised thunderstorms across the Southern peninsula through this weekend.

The forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) highlights that isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible over Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next 48 hours, while extremely heavy falls at isolated places may lash over Rayalaseema, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu on November 18.

On Thursday, the rain totals may exceed 250 mm in some localised places of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, thus triggering the risk of flooding, swollen rivers, mudslides in slope areas and inundation in low land areas. Accordingly, IMD has issued a red warning over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for today. It instructs residents to take action in case of inclement weather.

The rain activity is likely to be eased in the Southern peninsula by Friday onward since the intensity of the low-pressure area is expected to weaken.

Meanwhile, in North India, a feeble western disturbance is forecast to affect Trans Himalayas, it brings light to moderate snow on Thursday. The WD will be insignificant from Friday onward.

In terms of mercury levels, the maximum temperatures are likely to be on the cooler side across Northwest India in the remainder of this week. This trend will be eased from early next week.

To the south, cooler trends are expected until this weekend because of significant rain activity due to the aforementioned low pressure, but it will be back to the near average or warmer side from Monday.

Overnight minimums will be average or warmer than average across the country for the next several days.
