A garage is burned to the ground and a home has heavy damage from an overnight fire Monday morning in Sunnyslope.
The fire was called in just after 1 a.m. by a passing driver on Highway 97 who noticed large flames nearby. Seven fire districts responded to the fire because of its size.
Chelan County Fire Marshall Bob Plumb says the damage is far reaching. “Two vehicles were lost,” said Plumb. “They had chickens that didn’t make it. And there was storage that was lost. It’s always devastating for whoever owns the property where there’s a fire because nothing is salvagable.”
There was also minor damage to a shop on the lot next to the home in the 400 block of Inks Road.
There were no injuries to the two people who live in the home, but they’ve been displaced because of heavy damaged to the home and its roof.
The cause of the fire in under investigation, although Plumb says there’s no reason to believe it was intentional. He thinks it was ignited by something electrical in the garage or from a car parked inside.
There’s currently no estimate of monetary damage from the fire.
