5-Day Nationwide Forecast

The offshore trough is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rain with localised extremely heavy rain over some areas of Konkan & Malabar Coast for the next several days. The daily rainfall accumulation may add up to 200 mm for the next few days; meanwhile, the heaviest rain activity is expected on Thursday, July 22. Therefore, there are some chances of flooding, landslides in slope areas and inundation in low land places of the region.

Parts of northeast India are likely to start the week on a wet note due to the prevalence of southwesterly winds. The region is expected to experience widespread rain with thunderstorms and heavy rains on Monday.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon trough lies north of its normal position and is likely to continue there during the next two days, and thereafter shift southwards.

Under its influence, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very has been forecast over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Similar conditions are possible over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh from July 19 to 21. Some parts of Uttarakhand and northwest Uttar Pradesh may also experience isolated extremely heavy showers on July 19. Moreover, moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected over Delhi and Chandigarh on July 19.

A low-pressure area is expected to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal on Thursday and is likely to move northward toward about Bangladesh.

Widespread rain with localised extremely heavy falls has been forecast over Gangetic plains and the West Himalayan region, mainly west Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Haryana for the next two days as a cyclonic circulation is placed near the boundary of these aforementioned states.

Furthermore, the cyclonic circulation is likely to move westward while weakening, thus, the rain activity has been forecast to ease from Wednesday onward.

As per IMD, moderate to a severe thunderstorm with lightning is likely at isolated places of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and east Rajasthan and adjoining areas of west Rajasthan during the next 24 hours.

As for the mercury levels, the temperatures are predicted to be less than normal across the north and central region for the next couple of days due to the prevalence of northerly winds. However, the maximum temperatures could exceed the mark of 40°C across some areas of west Rajasthan adjoining Pakistan for the next few days.

Monday

  • Heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected over isolated places of Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, coastal parts of Maharashtra and Goa.
  • Heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and coastal Karnataka.
  • Widespread rains with thunderstorms are possible over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka and Kerala.
  • Scattered rain with lightning is likely over Gujarat, the remaining of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep.
  • Scattered snow or rain is possible over Ladakh.
  • Maximum temperatures are expected to be above 40°C in some parts of west Rajasthan.

Tuesday

  • Heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected over isolated places of Uttar Pradesh and coastal parts of Maharashtra and Goa.
  • Heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible over Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
  • Widespread rains with thunderstorms are on the cards for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka and Kerala.
  • Scattered rain with lightning is likely over Rajasthan, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
  • Scattered snow or rain is possible over Ladakh.
  • Isolated rain is expected over Lakshadweep.
  • Maximum temperatures are noted to be above 40°C in some parts of west Rajasthan.
