Denver weather: Poor air quality Monday, heavy rain possible Wednesday - The Denver Post

Did you see a particularly orange sunrise or sunset? That’s because Denver’s air is once again hazy due to smoke from several wildfires across the continent. While it may turn the sky the color of the Broncos, the air can be dangerous to breathe, making it unhealthy for sensitive groups, with officials warning to limit driving.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an ozone action alert covering the northern Front Range region, including the Denver metro, Fort Collins, Platteville and Greeley.

Monday will be 94 degrees under sunny skies with patchy smoke interfering, according to the NWS. The low will drop to 64 degrees as winds could pick up to over 15 mph. Isolated high-based storms could be possible over high-altitude spots in the afternoon.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high of 94 degrees. There’s a 20% chance of thunderstorms between noon and midnight when temperatures drop into the 60s.

The chance for thunderstorms will really kick up toward the plains on Wednesday, with the possibility of heavy rainfall that could result in flash flooding of burned areas or urban areas. The high in Denver will be 92 degrees, and there will be sun ahead of the 60% chance of afternoon storms.

The chance for afternoon storms persists throughout the rest of the week.
