NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – The New Bedford Police Department said they were at an “active crime scene” on Tuesday.

In a tweet, the department urged the public to avoid traffic in the area of Brownell Street due to a heavy police presence, just before 5:30 p.m.

Police are at an active crime scene on Brownell St. There is no danger to public. This is an ongoing investigation with a heavy police presence. Please avoid traffic in the area at this time.

New Bedford police said that although there was no danger to the public, the investigation was ongoing.

No further information has been released.  More information will be updated when it is provided.
