“Anytime you had the opportunity to spend just a few minutes with John Lewis, you took that opportunity,” says Representative Carter. “I mean this was truly someone who was iconic, this was someone who was a part of history. I mean what we studied in our history classes - he was there, he was part of it. It’s really a great loss to this country. It’s a very sad day in our country’s history to lose someone like John Lewis.”
