RANDOLPH, NJ- After securing a record of 9-7-2 overall in 2019, the Randolph boys soccer team will return multiple impact players to this seasons' squad.  With 17 seniors on the roster, experience and team chemistry should be key factors in leading to success

“I have high hopes this season; we have a lot of guys returning who have played together, have seen a lot of time in previous seasons, and who should make a big impact this year," said senior Captain Chris Keaney.  “I think we have a good group of players that will work hard for each other and work together to hopefully win a lot of games.”

As with every other sport, the Rams will be facing an abbreviated season filled with uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Their first game of the season was already canceled / postponed due to Covid concerns at Sparta High school.

“The teams’ main focus during this shortened season will definitely be to always give it our all,” said senior Captain Josh Levy.  “We realize that we never know when it might be the last time on the field, so we just want to go out and play hard every chance we get.”

Levy, who spent his first two seasons on varsity as a striker, will be taking his skills to a different spot this year, sliding back to the midfield position.

“Coach came to me during the offseason and asked me where I thought I should play, I responded with “Wherever you need me,’” said Levy.  “I love the new position ( Right Midfield ) as it allows me to move up and down the field, playing on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.”

Opposite Levy on the left side of the midfield will be senior Alex Marks, and in the middle of those two will be Center Mid’s Rohan Trippathy (Senior), Iggy/Ignacio Martinez (Sophomore) and AJ Cacciacarne (Junior), all of whom saw a good amount of time last season on varsity.  Junior Ethan Kim and sophomore Kevin Martinez are prepared to provide quality minutes in relief of the midfielders.

“Everyone on this team knows each other on more than just a first name basis, which really helps out on the field,” said Levy.  “We know each player's tendencies, opening up space for others.  With our team this year, we should be able to pound teams to the ground with our work ethic, our fitness, and our skill levels.

Keaney, along with senior Akay Utku will start at Striker, where the pair will be expected to provide scoring punch for the Rams.  When they need a rest, coming off the bench will be another varsity returner in Gili Krasner-Cohen, and a newcomer in junior Luke Traverso.

“Coach Mousis has really been stressing to us the necessity for communication and teamwork,” said Keaney.  “It will require all of us working together to win games this year.  Everyone on the team needs to stay humble and do their job.”

Back on defense, the Rams will be anchored at Center Back by senior Joe Reed, a third-year varsity player.  Flanking Reed at Right and Left Back will be a rotation of senior Jaden Tinio, senior Dan Frey, and junior Hunter Rodriguez.

Goalies Nick Alvarado (Senior) and Dan Villoresi (Senior) have been battling all Fall for time in net, and to this point coach Mousis has not named an official starter.

“As a captain, I feel the responsibility to ensure that the team is working hard and motivating each other to play good soccer,” said Keaney.  “We have a lot of seniors this year who are playing their last year of high school soccer, including myself, and I think we are using that to motivate ourselves to leave it all on the field and have no regrets as our high school careers come to a close.”
