Today’s Forecast:

The forecast today and tonight is all about two things: snow and dangerous cold. Snow will be heaviest in the first half of the day, especially in the mountains and areas south of El Paso County. Snow will generally weaken to lighter snow showers and flurries by this evening, with dry skies expected by midnight.

Temperatures will stay in the single digits and teens all day, only to fall into the single digits and negatives overnight. Even with light winds, frostbite on exposed skin could occur within minutes.

PUEBLO: High: 16; Low: 1. Moderate to heavy snow will continue in the morning hours, with moderate to light bands of snow in the afternoon. Commutes all day will be extremely slow and slick, and temperatures will fall into the single digits by early Tuesday morning.

CANON CITY: High: 17; Low: 6. Periods of moderate to heavy snow are expected through the morning hours in and around Canon City, with lighter snow to flurries in the afternoon. Snow will clear overnight and temperatures will fall into the single digits by early Tuesday morning.

WOODLAND PARK: High: 14; Low: -1. Areas of light snow to flurries from the morning into the afternoon hours across Teller County with extremely cold temperatures and very slick commutes all day. Overnight we'll be dry but lows will likely fall into the negatives.

TRI-LAKES: High: 10s; Low: <0s. Periods of light snow to flurries from the morning into the afternoon across the Tri-Lakes area with snow-covered road and dangerous cold air lasting into early Tuesday morning.

PLAINS: High: 10s; Low: <10s. Periods of light snow and flurries especially for areas close to I-25 with very cold air all day. Lows tonight will fall into the single digits with light snow to flurries dry by midnight.

WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High: 10s; Low: 10s. Very heavy snow across the region along I-25 from Walsenburg to Trinidad from the morning into the early afternoon, eventually turning into light snow and flurries by the end of the day. Roads will be extremely dangerous to travel all day, especially out west into La Veta Pass. Temperatures will fall into the single digits by early Tuesday morning with snow ending by midnight.

Extended Outlook:
The big story tomorrow will be the extreme cold we start out with. Lows overnight into early Tuesday morning will fall into the single digits and negatives. We'll be dry on Tuesday and sunny meaning we'll see melting in the afternoon. Our upper level low that brought this snow will move east of New Mexico on Wednesday, but that could swing areas of snow and showers into far southern Colorado, mainly in the plains south of highway 50 and east of I-25.

We look warmer and sunny for this coming weekend with highs back in the 60s and a few 70s.
