TUESDAY FORECAST
Rain will taper to showers. It was windy overnight in the Cascade foothills and is currently windy at the Washington coast.
Wind will pick up everywhere on Tuesday with a wind advisory in effect until 4 p.m. for most of the Puget Sound area, where wind will be around 20 to 30 mph with gusts around 40 to 45 mph. The strongest winds will be around late morning and early afternoon.
There are high wind warnings from the Strait of Juan de Fuca north to the Canadian border and to the coast where southwesterly winds will be around 30 to 40 mph with gusts around 50 to 55 mph.
There has already been some isolated thunderstorm activity at the coast and that threat will continue, even inland.
Overall, look for showers, isolated thunderstorms and windy weather all over. Highs will stay in the low 50s.
Mountain snow will be heavy mainly above 3,500 feet with Stevens Pass, Mount Baker, Paradise and Hurricane Ridge receiving 6 to 12 inches Tuesday. Snoqualmie Pass could receive a bit less if rain mixes in but travel on I-90 could be troublesome at times. About 4 to 6 inches of snow could fall at Snoqualmie Pass and around 10 inches at Stevens Pass.
LOOKING AHEAD
There will be a break in the action Tuesday night through most of Wednesday and there could be a little sunshine, too. There is a slight chance of rain Wednesday, but most areas won’t have any appreciable rain.
On Thursday, a warm front moves north with some light rain through the day at times. Heavier rain arrives Thursday night and persists through Friday, associated with an atmospheric river.
This will bring more than an inch of rain to lowland locations and more to the mountains with rain all the way up to 7,000 feet in elevation. This will cause river levels to spike, but we’ll have to see as we get closer if rivers could get close to flood stage. We could see some drier weather with just a few showers on Saturday, with increasing rain on Sunday.
