UPDATEL 10/28 at 2PM: Severe thunderstorms remain possible late tonight into Friday morning across ENC, with the highest threat to see severe weather forecast along the coast. Damaging wind gusts, isolated tornadoes, heavy rain, and lightning are the biggest concerns within any stronger storm. Stay weather aware tonight and have multiple ways to receive warning.

Dare County | October 28 | Morning Beach Conditions

HIGH rip current risk at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Ocean swimming is not recommended, stay out of the water!

MODERATE rip current risk south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village, & Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone, always take flotation!

High surf advisory in place with large breaking waves expected for the northern Outer Banks and Hatteras Island tonight and Friday.

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which was low at 6:55 am with the next low around 8:20 pm today.

​Partly sunny skies with high temperature in the upper 60s. Northeast winds around 10 mph.
