Storms are developing in Central Texas that may move east into Dallas-Fort Worth, bringing threats of hail and gusty winds Wednesday night.

Rain is expected to develop gradually throughout the day, and a few strong storms are possible Wednesday morning and afternoon along the Red River and west of Interstate 35E. Storms are most likely to hit North Texas this evening.

“Most of the daytime hours are dry, but just like yesterday I do expect a line of showers and thunderstorms to develop to the west and move east through the North Texas area,” KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Samantha Davies said. “... Some of these thunderstorms could get quite strong.”

Although the threat of widespread severe weather is low, tonight’s storms could bring up to 60-mph winds and small hail in some areas, the National Weather Service said.

More rain is expected tomorrow, and rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches are forecast through Saturday, with higher amounts possible in isolated areas.

“We have even more rain in the forecast for the rest of the week,” Davies said. “About a 60 to 70% chance for some widespread showers and even some thunderstorms as we finish the week.”

Here’s NBC5′s forecast for the week:

Wednesday: 86/71, partly to mostly cloudy with a 40% chance for isolated thunderstorms.

Thursday: 86/68, partly to mostly cloudy with a 60% chance for scattered thunderstorms.

Friday: 80/67, partly to mostly cloudy with a 70% chance for scattered thunderstorms.

Saturday: 82/67, partly cloudy with a 60% chance for scattered thunderstorms.

Sunday: 82/65, mostly sunny and warm.
