NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio -- Tire disposals are just one of the many different services North Olmsted provides to residents on an annual basis.
“We’re happy to work with our partners and provide our residents local relief here,” Mayor Kevin Kennedy said. “It’s good for everyone involved.”
Through Sept. 15, North Olmsted will be accepting scrap tires 20 inches or less and no rims from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the south side of city hall.
“There’s the environmental benefit,” North Olmsted Director of Planning and Development Kimberly Lieber said. “It’s offering people a safe way to dispose of things that they don’t need anymore that benefits the city too by not having these tires piling up or hazardous chemicals at people’s properties. It comes back to health, safety and sanitization.”
Kennedy noted the list of round-ups involve computers, old paint, hazardous goods and paper shredding.
“We have a whole series of round-ups of various kinds held at different times throughout the year,” Lieber said. “These are all different things that residents might find a challenge to get rid of normally.”
Regarding water-based paint, Lieber said residents can let the cans dry out before being thrown in the regular trash. Oil-based paints that must be disposed of through the service department.
“The response has always been positive on the programs we have,” Kennedy said. “Anytime you can unload some of your items you can’t get rid of in the trash locally I think that’s a good thing.”
In a related note, starting in October the curbside brush chipping program -- which during the spring and summer is one ward per week -- shifts to one citywide pass per month.
