Here's our latest weather outlook for India
5-Day Nationwide Forecast
The Very Severe Cyclonic storm Tauktae made landfall last night over Gujarat's Saurashtra, and has since moved north-northeastwards with a speed of about 11 kmph in the past six hours, laying centred over Saurashtra—about 95 km north-northeast of Diu and 10 km south of Amreli. It will continue to move north-northeastwards and weaken gradually into a Severe Cyclonic Storm in the next three hours.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall with widespread flooding, inundation and landslide risk is expected over Saurashtra & Kutch and South Rajasthan in the next 24 hours. Gale winds are also forecast in these regions from early Wednesday, with gusty winds exceeding 100 km/ph on Tuesday.
The rainfall intensity will gradually ease up in these places, but heavy rain is expected over Western Himalayan Region (WHR) and its adjoining northwestern plains from Wednesday to Thursday.
In addition, heavy snow has been forecast over the West Himalayan Region from Wednesday onwards, with total snow in excess of 200 mm at isolated areas of Uttarakhand.
Further, as a cyclonic circulation persists over Northeast India, widespread rain is also likely over the region. Intense rainfall activity is expected from Tuesday, with total rain exceeding an excess of 100 mm a day over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and adjoining regions between Wednesday and Friday. Prolonged rainfall is also expected to increase the risk of mudslides and swollen rivers in these areas.
A trough along the west coast of the Southern peninsula is likely to bring prolonged rain over Kerala and Coastal Karnataka for few days.
Meanwhile, temperatures will continue to be below average across India this week. Regions in semi-arid and Gangetic plain are especially forecast to be 8°C below normal for the next three days.
