SAN JOSE — There is a heavy police presence at a San Jose home belonging to a Valley Transportation employee which caught fire early Wednesday around the time of a mass shooting at a VTA light rail yard.

Multiple sources identified the shooter as VTA employee Samuel Cassidy.

According to public records, Cassidy, a VTA substation maintainer, lives at the home on Angmar Court in South San Jose, where a single-alarm fire was reported by a passerby at 6:36 a.m. A San Jose Fire spokeswoman said no one was injured in the blaze and the cause is under investigation.

In addition to local authorities, the FBI arrived at the scene Wednesday morning and San Jose bomb squad technicians were seen preparing to enter the home on Angmar, not long after fire started smoldering again.

Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith said officials are investigating whether there might be explosive devices located in the suspect’s home.

Nine people, including the shooter, died in the Wednesday morning mass shooting, authorities said.
