5-Day Nationwide Forecast
The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Yaas moved north-northwestwards with a speed of about 15 kmph during the past six hours. As of 5:30 a.m. IST on Wednesday, it lay centred over northwest Bay of Bengal, about 40 km east of Dhamra, 90 km south-southeast of Balasore (Odisha), and 90 km south-southwest of Digha (West Bengal). It is very likely to move north-northwestwards to cross north Odisha coast to the north of Dhamra and south of Balasore during the afternoon of 26th May as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm. Under its influence:
(i) Rainfall Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls are expected over Odisha on 26th; isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy falls are possible over Gangetic West Bengal on 26th; Jharkhand on 26th & 27th and Bihar on 27th May.
(ii) Sea condition will be high to very high over west-central and adjoining east-central and north Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to become Very High to Phenomenal over the northern parts of central Bay of Bengal, north Bay of Bengal and along & off north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts till Wednesday evening.
(iii) Fishermen Warning The fishermen are advised not to venture into central Bay of Bengal till Wednesday forenoon and into north Bay of Bengal and along & off north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts during the next 24 hours.
(iv) Storm surge warning: Tidal waves of height 2-4 meters above astronomical tide are likely to inundate low-lying areas of Medinipur, Balasore and Bhadrak. Further, waves that are 2 meters above astronomical tide are likely to inundate low-lying areas of South 24 Parganas, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts around the time of landfall.
Meanwhile, the northern limit of Southwest Monsoon continues to pass through 5°N/75°E, 7°N/80°E, 11°N/85°E, 13°N/90°E and 16°N/94.5°E.
Kerala and coastal Karnataka will receive persistent showers with thunderstorms this week due to onshore winds.
Portions of Northeast India will also keep receiving rainfall with thunderstorms, as southwesterly winds provide moisture into the region.
Both maximum and minimum temperatures will be below to notably below normal across East India into the northern plains through the weekend, while dry regions will experience near to above normal highs. Temperatures will rise over 45°C across western portions of Rajasthan during this projection period.

Wednesday
- Extremely heavy rains are likely over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand, while heavy to very heavy falls are on the horizon over Assam and Meghalaya.
- Heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh and Kerala & Mahe.
- Widespread rains with thunderstorms have been predicted over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar.
- Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are on the cards over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.
- Scattered rains with thunderstorms are likely over East Uttar Pradesh.
- Isolated rains with thunderstorms are possible over Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Interior Karnataka.
- Maximum temperatures are likely to be above 45°C in some places of Rajasthan, and above 40C in some places of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

- Extremely heavy rains are likely over Bihar and Jharkhand, while heavy rainfall is in the forecast over East Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- Widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand and Bihar.
- Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep.
- Scattered rains with thunderstorms are expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
- Isolated rains with thunderstorms are possible over West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region, Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Interior Karnataka.
- Maximum temperatures are likely to be above 45°C in some places of Rajasthan, and above 40C in some places of Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
