The powerful winter storm that brought heavy rain, the season's first big snowfall and winds over 50 mph was slowly headed east and out of the region Friday morning.
The National Weather Service in Duluth said light snow and drizzle may still fall Friday across Minnesota’s Arrowhead region, with up to 4 additional inches of snow in the South Shore snowbelt near Hurley and Ironwood.
Top snowfall honors went to Chisholm with 6.8 inches. Several crashes were reported across Northland highways.
The storm produced wind gusts to 52 mph at the Grand Marais harbor, where some waves forced water up into the city streets.
The storm also dropped some of the highest rainfall totals in months, with the North Shore especially wet. A total of 5.75 inches of rain fell in Tofte, 4 inches in Hovland, 3.24 inches in Grand Marais and 3.16 inches in Two Harbors, with 1.44 inches of rain falling at Duluth International Airport, 1.35 inches in Hayward and 1.3 inches in Bayfield.
Some clearing is expected Friday night with lows in the teens before another chance of snow enters the region Saturday night.
