Ram has issued a recall alert for about 240,000 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 Heavy Duty trucks equipped with 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engines. The trucks may have defective high-pressure fuel pumps that can fail, causing the engine to stall.
Not all 2019-2020 Ram Heavy Duty trucks are affected, so some owners may not get a recall notice. Ram has narrowed the problem down to trucks built on certain dates.
As the pumps age, they can shed debris into the fuel system. In some cases, failing fuel pumps may cause damage to other engine components. As the problem develops, drivers may notice warning lights or abnormal engine noises. But the problem can also occur without warning.
Dealers will replace the high-pressure fuel pump, inspect the rest of the fuel system for damage, and replace any parts that may have been damaged by debris from the fuel pump. Recall repairs are always free.
