BETHELHEM — At the height of the Monday’s snowstorm, firefighters responded to a kitchen blaze that filled a house with heavy smoke, according to fire officials.
Units were dispatched to an Arrowhead Lane home shortly before 8 p.m.
Arriving units found that the fire was contained to the kitchen, but the house was filled with heavy smoke, officials said. Crews ventilated the house, which officials said suffered heavy smoke damage but limited fire damage in the kitchen.
“Not only were the roads a challenge to negotiate during the storm but the driveway itself was a long steep uphill driveway,” officials said.
Bethlehem Public Works met the fire trucks as they were en route and plowed the roads leading to the scene to ensure safe travel to the fire call.
Public Works Director John Zarrella, a former chief of the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department, was the first on scene and cleared as much of the driveway as he could with a town truck.
