My apologies for things being a bit slow around here over the past few days. Real life has decided to kick yours truly in the backside a few times and. . .well, this just isn’t a whole lot going on right now. But, we do have a good news story that involves several former and current members of the Minnesota Vikings to share with you.
Some of you may or may not be aware that former Vikings’ defensive lineman Willie Howard is the head football coach at Robbinsdale Cooper High School, a position that he has held since 2010. Howard was drafted by the Vikings in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft, but played just two years in the league before a serious injury ended his career.
Cooper needed a new weight room for their athletes, and Howard took it upon himself to raise the money for it with a GoFundMe site. He then got in contact with Vikings’ legend John Randle, and found some more funding for the $150,000 project. On top of that, the foundation of current wide receiver Adam Thielen made a donation to put things over the top.
Assistance was also given by Polaris as well as the Robbinsdale schoolboard.
Thielen and his wife, Caitlin, attended the ribbon cutting for the new facility. If you click on the link above, you can see a time-lapse video of the transformation of the weight room as well as some comments from Howard, Randle, and Thielen.
When you get to this time of year, it’s always nice to see stories like this about guys in purple doing well. I mean, it’s great at any time of year, but particularly at times like this when there isn’t a whole lot else happening.
Congratulations to Willie Howard and the athletes of Robbinsdale Cooper High School on the completion of their new weight room, and kudos to John Randle and Adam Thielen for helping to make it happen.
