tederes.blogspot.com

The winter storm has begun and it started with a layer of ice. As of 6:30 am the snow had already started, so road conditions will be deteriorating through the lunch hour.

A WINTER STORM WARNING and a WINTER WEATHER ADVISROY have been issued for portions of western Wisconsin. You can find more information on the expiration of those advisories, here.

Periods of heavy snowfall with rates upwards of an inch an hour are likely through noon. Warmer temperatures will mix in patchy sleet or freezing rain south of the Chippewa Valley.

After 4 pm the snowfall will taper off and flurries or isolated pockets of snow showers will be possible through midnight. Snowfall totals will range from 1 to 4 inches near the MN border. 3 to 6 inches are possible across Highway 53 while east of that mark could see 4 to an isolated 9''+.

Strong winds gusting over 35 mph will be following the snow and will cause blowing and drifting. Visibility will be reduced throughout your Thursday with improving conditions later this evening.

Any snow, ice that isn't cleared off by late Thursday night will be stuck for quite some time. Near sub-zero temperatures with wind chills near -20 below will kickstart you Friday and temperatures will continue to plummet into the weekend.

Dangerous air temperatures will fall below -20 Saturday and Sunday night. Wind chills may be between -50 to -60 Sunday morning. There could be multiple days in a row below zero next week. An arctic blast that we haven't felt yet this season.
