In honor of the late great Jonny & Marsha Zazula, Metallica has announced they will be hosting a special performance later this year to celebrate the two metal icons. Dating back to the band’s early years, Metallica got their first jumpstart after signing with Jonny & Marsha Zazula’s now iconic label, Megaforce Records. The couple helped kickstart Metallica and several like minded metal bands throughout the early 80’s including Anthrax, Raven, and Testament among others. Megaforce Records put Metallica on the map by funding and releasing their debut studio album Kill Em’ All in 1983, in addition to landing the band their first significant tour. In January 2021 Marsha Zazula died after her battle with cancer, and Jonny passed away only a year later in February of this year.

In an official statement, Metallica announced that an honorary show to commemorate the couple will be held on November 6th, at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. The band’s show will also have special guests and fellow Megaforce alumni Raven performing, and will see Metallica playing classics from their early days with Jonny and Marsha.

Detailing the event, Metallica have stated “we’re excited to add one more night to the tour calendar this year with a special show at Hard Rock Live in at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on Sunday, November 6, 2022. This night will be extra-special as we’ll be celebrating the life, legacy, and achievements of Jonny and Marsha Zazula.

“Jonny gave us our first break in New York, released our first albums on his Megaforce Records label, and put us out on the road for our first real tour. With Marsha by his side, Jonny was a mentor, a manager, a label head, and a father figure to us all.... we would not be where we are today without the two of them. Sadly, we recently lost both Jonny and Marsha, just a little more than a year apart.

“We’ll be cooking up a special setlist for you full of songs from our days with Jonny and Marsha at Megaforce. Our main touring partner from that time, Raven, will be joining us to add to the celebration and bring back the memories.”

Metallica also announced that a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to MusiCares in Jonny and Marsha’s name. In addition, the band’s own charity, All Within My Hands Foundation, will be donating to the non-profit, Feeding South Florida, following the show.
