Heavy smoke blowing into the Wenatchee Valley Monday afternoon is from a wildfire in Yakima County.
The Schneider Springs Fire west and north of Yakima grew by more than 2,000 acres Sunday through Monday morning, and has led to Level 3 evacuations in the local area.
The smoke from this fire has darkened skies to the south of Wenatchee, leading to a rush of phone calls to Newsradio 560 KPQ and local emergency agencies.
Almost 450 people are currently battling the Schneider Springs Fire, about 20 miles northwest of Naches.
