After seeing a mainly dry start to the weekend, conditions begin to change heading into tonight. Mother's Day is expected to be soggy due to a frontal system nearing the area overnight.
Showers are expected to be heavy overnight. Expect rain showers to begin later this evening after 7 PM and persist through the overnight hours. A thunderstorm overnight may be possible across the central Illinois region, but looks to remain unlikely.
Widespread heavy rain showers continue into Mother's Day morning before 10 AM. Lingering showers across the area late morning and early afternoon, but conditions will begin to dry out later in the day. Rain accumulations between 1-2" is likely. Areas south of I-74 corridor should expect accumulations between 1.5-2". However, Bloomington-Normal area may see rain accumulations slightly higher, roughly around 2-3".
Mother's Day morning may not be the best for any outdoor plans with mom, but look probable later in the afternoon when conditions begin to dry. Expect cloudy conditions for the remainder of the day along with unseasonably cooler highs in the low to mid-50s.
Winds will be gusty at times Sunday, especially during periods of heavy rain showers. Gusty winds begin to settle heading later into Sunday evening.
Dry, and unseasonably cool weather is expected at the start of the upcoming work-week before 70s make a return in the forecast.
