Gillian Anderson, who most recently played Britain’s prime minister Margaret Thatcher in The Crown, and Peter Morgan, who created The Crown, have broken up, according to the Daily Mail. They had been together since 2016, but as its source reports, the relationship had “run its course,” like a cold, and they plan to “remain great friends.”
That’s all good and very adult, but it doesn’t keep one from mourning the loss of a niche power couple, the Iron Lady and her writer. It also doesn’t keep one from wondering what happened there. Anderson’s representation has said they don’t comment on personal matters, and Vanity Fair has reached out to Morgan.
Anderson told The Sunday Times recently, “My partner and I don’t live together. If we did, that would be the end of us. It works so well as it is, it feels so special when we do come together.”
That was in January, pre-pandemic, pre-lockdown, which makes it wild when she continued with, “There is nothing locking us in, nothing that brings up that fear of, ‘Oh gosh, I can’t leave because what will happen to the house, how will we separate?”
