LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service has canceled a flash flood warning that was in effect for Kauai as heavy rain from a passing cold front has eased.
The Weather Service said at 9 a.m., radar showed heavy rain and storms impacting the island with more moving ashore from the northeast. Peak rainfall rates were measured at 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Officials added that the water levels at the Wainiha and Hanalei streams rose rapidly after parts of the island saw two to four inches of rain between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.
While the most intense rain has diminished, there’s still a chance for isolated downpours that could cause localized flooding.
At last check, there were no road closures reported by the county, though they are keeping a close eye on Kuhio Highway at the Hanalei Bridge.
