WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - A First Alert Weather Day from tonight through Sunday night for Central Wisconsin from Highway 29 on south. Periods of rain tonight with scattered strong storms. Rain showers and a chance of storms through mid-morning on Sunday, then a lull with the wet weather for late morning to early afternoon. Clouds are expected to be common, however, if any sunshine happens to break out, that will add to the storm fuel and provide better odds of strong to severe storms in parts of Central Wisconsin Sunday afternoon into the night. If it stays clouds, there will still be showers and storms for the remainder of the day, with the main issues still being locally heavy rainfall. Total rainfall by Sunday night could range from 2-3″ with locally higher amounts to 5″ where storms happen to move over the same locations. Muggy on Sunday with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

The showers and storms will wind down later Sunday night with the warm and humid weather sticking around for the work week ahead. There will be more risks of storms Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. There is a chance of strong to severe storms Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. These are possible additional First Alert Weather Days, so stay tuned for updated.

Meantime, be aware of changeable travel conditions due to heavy rainfall. There will be roads with ponding of water, especially in poor drainage areas, creating flooding conditions for a time. If any roads are flooded, be sure to turn around, don’t drown.
