Heavy-metal’s dark imagery and tritones have made that style of rock music a frequent target of televangelists.
Turns out metal and TV preachers work amazing well together, at least when guitarist Andres Antunes is involved.
Antunes has mashed up a video of Texas based pastor Kenneth Copeland attempting an onstage exorcism of COVID-19 from the United States of America, with a headbanging music track. Antunes’ riffs are uncannily matched to Copeland’s fire and brimstone.
It’s quite possibly the most watchable 107 seconds of visual entertainment you’ll see today. Or any day. The clip is titled “Judgement on COVID-19 goes HEAVY METAL [Kenneth Copeland Remix] [I Demand].” Since posting Nov. 26, Antunes’s video has racked up around 110,000 views on YouTube. You can watch the vid below. The mashup starts about 44 seconds in.
In the clip, playing what appears to be an Eddie Van Halen designed Wolfgang Music Man guitar, Antunes masterfully runs through a dynamic a series of pummeling and even atmospheric passages. And Copeland, with his blue suit and curtained pulpit, keeps an angry groove that puts many leather-clad frontmen to shame.
This isn’t the time Antunes has mashed up metallicized Copeland. In a Nov. 21 YouTube video, the guitarist put a bunch of sinister licks to a clip of Copeland laughing in an unhinged manner for 43 seconds, after mainstream media declared Joe Biden victorious in the recent presidential election.
The combined effect is unsettling as a classic King Diamond track. Titled “Kenneth Copeland goes METAL! [HA HA HA remix],” that clip has been viewed more than 140,000 times.
More than 200,000 YouTube users subscribe to Antunes’ YouTube channel. His clever videos have received coverage from Guitar World magazine. Those YouTube vids find Antunes doing everything from a rock-medley of famous classical composers’ work, to Daft Punk’s dance hit “Get Lucky” played in the style of guitar heroes like Steve Via and Slash.
