Will Tigers add reinforcements? Check out current player pool, 40-man roster - mlive.com

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have seven spots available in their 60-man player pool if they choose to bring in reinforcements.

The club placed six players on the 10-day injured list this week. None of the players had been spotted at Comerica Park since summer camp opened last week. One of the players, left-handed pitcher Daniel Norris, said that he tested positive for COVID-19 but is feeling well and is eager to return as soon as he is permitted.

MLB has a separate list for players with COVID-related absences, but the Tigers are not distinguishing between the COVID list and the regular list in their public comments.

Teams are allowed to add players to the player pool, but with only 13 days until Opening Day, it’s not clear if the Tigers will do so. New players would have to go through a testing protocol before being cleared.

Manager Ron Gardenhire could probably use some more flexibility in intrasquad games. He said he’ll talk to general manager Al Avila about the issue.

“I’ll talk to Al, we’ll go over some things and see where he stands,” Gardenhire said.

Right-handed pitcher Michael Fulmer is technically still on the 60-day injured list, a designation that doesn’t even exist in 2020. But he’s participating fully in camp and if he continues to progress he should be activated for the start of the season.

At the risk of causing even more confusion, here’s a rundown on who is actively participating in camp, who is in the 60-man player pool and who is on the 40-man roster.
