On June 4, the National Basketball Players Association voted to approve a 22-team format to finish off the 2020 NBA season.
The top 22 teams currently in the NBA standings will play eight games each to decide which teams will play in the tournament. The NBA is planning to clean each court before and after all games.
While the NBA is taking extraordinary caution, it seems as the league is desperate to extend the season, and are therefore putting the players in harm’s way.
Instead of having a 16-day tournament, the NBA should cancel the current 2020 season, but give each team that would have made the playoffs a certain mathematical advantage based on their seeding the previous year. This would take the players out of harm’s way while still keeping all fans entertained, and giving the players more time to heal and help flatten the curve.
