Heavy Rain Slams Las Vegas, Monsoonal Storms Continnue - WeatherNation

tederes.blogspot.com

Heavy monsoonal storms brought rain to Las Vegas Thursday night, which caused damage on roadways, flooded streets and even came through the ceilings of casinos! Now, we have the severe storm potential around Las Vegas again overnight and the risk for excessive rainfall in many spots around the Southwest U.S. this weekend.

Colorado also had active weather Friday from monsoon storms, including two landspout tornadoes!

The rain potential continues this weekend with the risk of excessive rainfall both through the next 3 days. Saturday’s level 2 risk extends farther west into parts of California, mainly in the Mohave Desert, east of the San Bernardino Mountains.

The risk for flooding will continue on Sunday and Monday, with the higher threat (dark green) in parts of Arizona and New Mexico.

Storms will diurnal in nature, firing up in the afternoon heat and then subsiding shortly after sundown. While no widespread severe opportunity looks possible either weekend day, we could see a few gusty thunderstorms.

Pockets of heavy rain can be expected where slow moving or multiple thunderstorms track. Pockets of dark green and yellow indicate the potential for 2-3 inches of rain.

The monsoon season looks to continue in robust fashion into the first week of August with a good chance for above average rainfall.
