Which current Steelers could be enshrined in the Hall of Fame? - Behind the Steel Curtain

tederes.blogspot.com

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a long history of putting members into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Just this weekend, five former members of the black and gold will be enshrined forever with football’s greatest honor. Many Steelers are still waiting in the wings to get their place in the hall, names such as L.C. Greenwood and Hines Ward come to mind, but in due time they always get in. The next Pittsburgh Steeler to enter the hall may even be on the current roster, only time will tell.

The following list is the players on the Steelers current roster that have a chance at one day wearing the gold jacket.

When the 2021 season has come to an end, Ben Roethlisberger will be amongst the Top 5 in every major passing category. On top of that, he will have one of the greatest records for a player in league history, and he already has a pair of Super Bowl rings. Roethlisbeger has the resume many only dream of having, and will be a first ballot hall of famer when his time comes.

Kevin Colbert

Arguably the NFL’s best General Manger of the past 20+ years. Colbert will be remembered for building multiple championship teams and mining talent out of the late rounds of the NFL Draft. Colbert has arguably the strongest case for any active Steeler to get into the hall, and that is saying a lot.

Mike Tomlin

The winningest minority coach in NFL history, a Super Bowl champ, and has never had a losing season. Coach Tomlin will be enshrined in Canton one day, and his resume willingly continue grow.

T.J. Watt

T.J. Watt leading the NFL in sacks in 2020 put him on the map, lump in multiple DPOY nominations and T.J. has already built up a legacy for himself. Watt is also well on pace to smash the Steelers sacks in a career mark, and become the first Pittsburgh Steeler to surpass 100 sacks. Sure, he needs some more accolades, but leading the Pittsburgh Steelers defense in career anything means you rank over dozens of hall of famers.

Joe Haden

Joe Haden has been consistently one of the best corners in the NFL for more than 10 years. Think of all the great corners that burn out after only a couple years on top, think Darrelle Revis and Richard Sherman. If Haden played another three years or added a championship ring his legacy would be too much for voters to ignore. Add on he’s beloved by his piers and it’s safe to say many people will be pulling for him on the inside.

Cameron Heyward

The toughest part about Cam Heyward’s legacy in the eyes of the NFL is that he dominated the NFL while some guy named Aaron Donald rewrote the record books at the same time at virtually the same position. Heyward would need a few more years of dominance and a ring to really get his name into the mind of voters. It’s not impossible but it won't be an easy task.

Minkah Fitzpatrick

Minkah Fitzpatrick is a special player. In three years he’s created a list of memorable plays and has become the top free safety in the league. If he can continue this pace for another seven+ years Fitzpatrick will certainly find his way to the hall.

But what do you think? Is there any players that I missed? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
