Culver Community School Superintendent Karen Shuman told the school board members Monday night that the current COVID-19 guidelines in place are what will be followed until the environment changes.
She said even though the CDC, Indiana Department of Health and the Marshall County Health Department are strongly recommending masks, county superintendents have agreed to stay with the guidance set forth prior to the start of school which gives everyone the option of wearing a mask.
“We have a year of data where we know what happened within our buildings,” explained Shuman. “We do understand there are other variants out there, but we also know the resiliency of the students and the majority of those that wanted to be vaccinated had the opportunity to get vaccinated if they were students or adults. So, we’re maintaining as we are and we’ll keep looking at the data.”
Shuman noted that there are still protocols in place.
“We’re still asking students to wear masks on the buses and we’re still taking temperatures daily as kids enter the building or get on the buses. We have all of the precautionary things that we had in place last year except for the mandate,” said Shuman.
Shuman said the county superintendents meet often to ensure that they are all on the same page when it comes to COVID-19 to ensure the safest learning environment for students, teachers and staff.
