Heavy delays expected on I-15 this weekend - The Salt Lake Tribune - Salt Lake Tribune

Heavy delays of up to 30 minutes in spots are expected on Interstate 15 this weekend because of paving and repair work in Salt Lake and Juab counties, the Utah Department of Transportation says.

The work is scheduled in three areas:

Southbound I-15 in Salt Lake City: The freeway will be reduced to one lane in areas between Beck Street and 2100 South overnight for several days — and all day on Sunday.

Restrictions begin at 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and end early the next morning. They also begin Saturday night at 9 but will not end until 5 a.m. on Monday.

UDOT said drivers should plan for heavier-than-normal traffic and delays especially on Sunday. Similar closures will be in place between 500 South and 2100 South during the next three weekends.

Crews will be repairing concrete pavement at several locations during the closures.

• I-15/I-215 interchange in Murray: The ramp from westbound I-215 to southbound I-15 is scheduled to close from 10 p.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Monday. Detour signs will be posted, and drivers should use alternate routes to access southbound I-15.

Crews will be working on several ramp bridges as part of a project that is adding a new travel lane on southbound I-15 from State Road 201 to 12300 South.

• Southbound I-15 in Juab County: The freeway is being reduced to one southbound lane from now through June 19 between the Sevier River bridge and the Juab-Millard county border, south of the Yuba Lake interchange.

UDOT said travelers driving to St. George and other points in central and southern Utah should plan for delays of 30 minutes or more.

Typically, crews reopen all lanes over the weekend to accommodate weekend traffic, but restrictions will remain this weekend for needed work, UDOT said.

Work on that repaving project is expected to continue through the summer.

Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. Updated information is available on the UDOT Traffic app or on its website at udottraffic.utah.gov.
