Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories are in effect for most of the viewing area from late tonight through Monday afternoon.
This Evening: Rain has been struggling to reach the ground as an increasingly strong east wind pumps in some dry air. Skies have otherwise been mostly cloudy with temperatures in the 40s. Besides a few isolated sprinkles, conditions should remain dry through this evening.
Tonight: The air will become more saturated late this evening, generally after 10 PM and the main band of precipitation will overspread the area through the night from southwest to northeast, which will coincide with temperatures dropping to the upper 20s and low 30s. That means rain will gradually turn over to snow, heavy at times, with periods of mixed precipitation in between.
While the ground is warm, the snow should be falling heavily enough (1-2” per hour) to see quick accumulations and dangerous travel, especially considering winds look to be the strongest Sunday night from the east at 15 to 30 mph with gusts around 45 mph. Visibility will be very low at times with blowing snow.
Monday: Temperatures will struggle to climb above freezing on Monday, only doing so by a degree or two. That means, we should see snow, and pockets of heavy snow, continuing through the first half of Monday and becoming a little more scattered through the afternoon.
The worst of the snow/wind and driving conditions will be around the Monday morning commute with school delays and cancellations possible. Winds will remain strong from the east at 15 to 30 mph with gusts 40-45 mph. Travel will remain heavily impacted on Monday with 4-7” of overall snow accumulation possible north of Highway 30 and 1-4” less of Highway 30.
A scattered wintry mix is possible, especially south, in the afternoon and overnight hours of Monday into Tuesday.
Tuesday: Skies look partly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 30s and low 40s south. Snow should melt relatively quickly throughout the forecast.
Wednesday/Thursday: Another soggy system, bringing mainly rain, is possible for Wednesday and Thursday with a chance for rain and snow in the overnight time periods/Thursday morning. Highs will be in the low to mid 40s with lows in the 20s to low 30s.
Friday/Weekend: The weather will turn nicer for this period as we climb back to the 50s, melt off snow, and see partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies.
Next Week: More rain is possible for Monday/Tuesday as breezy winds will keep highs mild.
