Incumbant Mark Lacis has been elected to the Superior Board of Trustees. However, according to unofficial results released at 12:36 this morning, the two other seats were too close to call. Lacis and the other two eventual winners will serve four-year terms.

Another release of results is expected this afternoon. According to the latest results, Lacis had 25.53% of the votes. Tim Howard had 19.88%, Paige Henchen 19.76%, and incumbant Kevin Ryan had 17.30%. Chris Ochs was shown to have 10.19% and Gladys M. Forshee had 7.34%.

As an incumbent, Lacis said he was happy to hear the results and was honored Superior residents were confident in his ability to preserve their quality of life and keep the city one of the best places to live and raise a family. This will be his second term after first being elected in 2016.

“My main focus for this next term will be completing Downtown Superior with the vibrant Main Street we were promised, prioritizing economic development and diversifying our sales tax base, and continuing to improve the quality of life of our residents by creating new parks and trails, opening a long-wanted community center and making our town 100% powered by renewable energy,” Lacis said.

Howard said he believes the next several years are going to present significant challenges to Superior and other communities across Colorado. In addition to Lacis, he said Tuesday night they need to transition the town to 100% renewable energy.

“The close race in Superior reflected the high caliber of the candidates, and I’m delighted to be one of the three likely elected trustees and welcome the opportunity to serve with Mark Lacis and Paige Henchen,” Howard said.

Henchen said she is hopeful she will be elected to the Superior Board of Trustees based on the results so far, but will continue to wait to hear more complete results. She said she will take this responsibility seriously and will work hard to serve the Superior community.

“I want to extend my thanks to the other candidates in this race,” said Henchen. “I appreciate the care, thought and energy that these candidates have put into the election. If elected, I will work with the other trustees to advance affordable housing and environmental sustainability.”

Ryan, another Board of Trustees incumbent, declined to comment Tuesday night.
