MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The Meridian Police Department’s SWAT team located and captured a fugitive who escaped from their custody earlier this week.
Police got a tip Davion Hardy was hiding inside an apartment at the Okatibbee Ridge Apartment complex on Highway 19. Officers responded to the complex at one o’clock and confirmed Hardy was inside.
Detectives said Hardy barricaded himself inside the apartment for about three hours until the SWAT team went inside. Detectives said officers found Hardy with a self-inflicted injury. Hardy was taken to a local hospital.
Hardy escaped from police custody Monday. Hardy was being held on several felony charges, including aggravated domestic violence and armed robbery.

There is a heavy police presence on Old 65th Avenue in Meridian as of 2:00 p.m.
Our reporter on the scene reports several officers are wearing body armor and carrying long guns. The officers could be part of the police department’s SWAT team. The officers appear to be concentrating their efforts on a house on Old 65th Avenue.
