A significant number of in-person voters are turning out this morning, even as Mainers cast a record number of absentee and early-voting ballots.
Portland residents Youssra Marjoua and Eric Faliciano said it’s their civic duty to vote, and decided to do so in person Tuesday.
“I think more than ever in our lifetimes it’s our responsibility and our duty to be here to vote. I think on behalf of generations to come,” Marjoua said.
Marjoua and Valenciano were only two of hundreds lined up at one of the city’s polling locations, Reiche Elementary School, prior to polls opening. The ward captain said polling locations throughout the city were just as busy.
According to data from the Maine secretary of state's office, nearly half a million ballots have already been cast in this election.
