GLASGOW, Ky.- Voters have cast nearly 100 million ballots ahead of Election Day, which is over two thirds of the total votes cast in 2016.

And now it comes to an end.

“Today is our last day for early in person voting here in Barren County,” said Barren County Clerk Helena Chase Birdwell.

In Barren County, Birdwell said they have seen a similar trend of more people voting before Election Day, but Birdwell says you have to take other factors into consideration.

“It’s hard to compare to the years past because the emergency regulations have allowed for us to open up and anyone that wanted to early vote or absentee vote had that opportunity,” said Birdwell.

In Warren County, they had more early voters than expected.

“For the turnout we were kind of thinking that we’d probably end up somewhere around 20,000 votes, and we’re well over that. We could very possibly have 30,000 by the end of today so that’s a lot more than we expected,” said Warren County Clerk Lynette Yates.

Even with the large amount of people, the lines went relatively quickly.

“Five to 10 minutes, you’re in and out,” said Yates.

Birdwell also thinks it will make things a lot smoother for tomorrow.

“I feel like it’ll be easier for voters tomorrow that want to go to the polls on Election Day. I don’t feel like there will be that long wait that folks have dreaded,” said Birdwell.
